The Academic Research Community (ARC) Alliance has officially launched Environmental Health Advances (EHA), a new diamond open-access journal dedicated to environmental health sciences. The publication will focus on advancing knowledge about toxicant-induced disease while highlighting strategies to protect and improve human health.

Led by a distinguished team of editors-in-chief from five major research institutions—Dana Dolinoy (University of Michigan), Rebecca Fry (UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health), Jonathan Levy (Boston University), Joel Meyer (Duke University), and Robyn Tanguay (Oregon State University)—the journal aims to publish innovative, timely research leading to actionable solutions for healthier communities and sustainable ecosystems.

As a diamond open-access journal, EHA is free for authors to publish in and free for readers to access, addressing growing concerns about publication costs and research accessibility. Kyle Walsh, director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), praised the initiative for supporting NIH priorities around open access, timely review processes, and controlling rising publication costs.

The launch is supported by the UNC Chapel Hill Provost’s Office and UNC Press. EHA joins ARC Geophysical Research as the Alliance’s second journal, with plans for a third publication already underway. Researchers in exposure science, toxicology, environmental epidemiology, and related interdisciplinary fields are invited to submit manuscripts as the journal’s call for papers is now open.
